We stayed at the York and Albany as part of a Red Letter Day trip, however we chose and booked this hotel ourselves.

The Location was good, just a 5 min walk from Camden Town Tube, and a 10 min walk to Camden Locks with its food stall which are a must do visit.

Check in was swift and staff were very friendly.

The hotel is a beautiful building, typical of this area and houses just 9 rooms, I was already aware that some rooms were better than others, but with just a one night stay booked and friends to meet, we were not looking to be staying much time in the hotel itself.

We were shown to room one, which is well decorated, but fairly small, actually smaller than most typical Premier Inn rooms, this however was not an issue with the small amount of time we would be spending in the room.

The bed however was a bit more of an issue. As the room was so small, they had a bed that was not even a full double so you struggle to get a comfortable nights sleep.

Amenities included water, both still and sparkling, fruit, tea and coffee.

Bath Robes, Shampoo etc were all provided in the bathroom, which was well decorated and contained a decent rain shower.

This hotel would have received a very good rating had it not been for the fact that when we went to bed and switched off the lights, we discovered an extremely bright green LED light on the ceiling close to the door. I can only assume this was an emergency exit light, however the brightness of it meant that the entire room was illuminated an awful luminous green colour, making it almost impossible to sleep. This really needs to be addressed in this room, I cant however comment if other rooms have the same issue.

We had a meal booked as part of a Red Letter Day voucher, which included a set 3 course meal, we however decided to pick of the al a carte, which gave us £24 a head towards the cost.

Being under the Gordon Ramsey umbrella, you may be expecting classical dishes, however this is not the case. Much like GR’s new style restaurants, the dishes here are more Pizza, Burgers and Steak.

We opted for some Calamari to start, which was well seasoned and cooked well. A Burger for main, which was good, and a Pizza, which was average, but as I make a lot of Pizza myself, I am very fussy as to what is good and not.

Desserts were very good, we choose doughnut balls and a brownie with cornflake ice cream.

Overall the food was good, but it was still basic food. Having said that the process were incredibly reasonable, with the Pizza being just £11.50, a lot less then you would pay at some other restaurants.

The service was impeccable and all staff were very friendly.

Breakfast was also included in the restaurant.

Eggs Benedict were great.

These were enjoyed with freshly squeezed pineapple juice and a coffee.

Overall the weekend was very much enjoyed. 2 hours by train with Virgin Trains which if booked 12 weeks in advance can be as cheap as £40 for First Class from Manchester.

If you fancy a weekend of food, markets and more food (Oh and a fair few drinks), Camden in a great place to base yourself within easy reach of the city centre and the West End.
